Tembec Executive Vice President, and President of Tembec's Forest Products Group DENNIS ROUNSVILLE, along with Cranbrook native TOM KIRK, the Human Resources Director of Tembec's BC Division promised that:
They would close the Cranbrook Planer in 2007 - it did.
They would pay severance to the remaining workers when the mill closed - They didn't.

These promises were made in
writing and had been verbally re-confirmed by management many times over 3 years
prior to shutdown.
Rob Ondrik
gets credit for the key creative loopholes written into
these meeting minutes
It's now 2 years later and this is what they say about the second promise:
|
"To be
clear, we have no intent on paying severance"
"We're not going to pay severance." |
Two years after closure Tembec is now calling this a temporary shutdown due to market conditions to get out of paying the remaining 15 loyal workers and their families their promised severance.

At
the end of November 2009, instead of sending out the promised
severance cheques Tembec will be sending out
these termination letters to
workers who have been with the company for 30+ years, some of our guys
have already received them.
All we ask is for Tembec to honor their promises to their employees.
There has been a lot in the news about Tembec
bad business practices and unfair treatment of employees. Check it out
here, with your input this will be updated regularly.
